Overview of Aerovaradero:

Aerovaradero: A Solution to Cuba’s Economic Changes

The leaders of the Cuban Civil Aeronautics Institute (IACC) created Aerovaradero in the early 1990s as a solution to the changes in the Cuban and global economies. The decision was made to keep Cuba’s Soviet-built air fleet from breaking down, which would make it harder for tourists to get to other parts of the country and hurt the economy even more.

Growth of Air Freight

In 1999 the air freight in the country was more and the growth was higher. Each group in the corporate system had to focus on its own air operations. The Cuban Company of Airports and Airport Services (ECASA) merged Aerovaradero SA with the department of international freight. This led to the organization and growth of the infrastructure to support national and international operations in different airports across the country.

ISO Standards and Expansion

Aerovaradero has been managed according to the standards ISO 9001-2000, ISO 9001-2008 and ISO 9001-2015 since 2002. This was certified by the National Office of Standardization and the Veritas Bureau. Aerovaradero SA grew when it added an international freight station in Havana City, which is now called Havana. In January 2004 the freight department of Airport Juan Gualberto Gómez in Varadero joined the company.

Collaboration with Other Airports

In 2005 representatives from the airports of Gerona, Camagüey, Holguín and Santiago de Cuba joined the action. They took care of all the national freight from these areas and nearby places like Baracoa and Guantánamo as well as any foreign freight that came into these airports.

Goals and Operations

The company’s goal is to operate air freight hubs in Cuba and to offer a full range of freight services as an airline agent and freight forwarder. They want to be the best in the market for providing a complete, fast, safe and efficient service to goods using cutting edge technology, a highly skilled workforce and an environmental commitment.
