DHL Fosters Sustainable Logistics Using New Biofuel Trucks for Formula 1

In an attempt to shift up its sustainability efforts, DHL is adding 18 vehicles that run on vegetable oil and will cover all the European F1 races by 2023. This initiative will fit well within the organization’s strategic plan toward realizing Formula 1 net-zero emission status by the year 2030. The trucks that utilize biofuel have been observed to have the ability to emit 60% less carbon emissions than traditional fuel without compromising the performance of diesel trucks.

Deputizing for a race car driver, the DHL Motorsport Team will transport up to 1,400 tons of freight per race, touring around 150,000 kilometers each season carrying essential commodities like race cars, equipment, and hospitality products. This partnership reflects the companies’ commitment to the conservation of the environment, further proving that thrilling events such as Formula 1 can be held sustainably.

During the European races, Paul Fowler, Head of DHL Motorsports Logistics, further stresses the fact that these trucks use second-generation biofuels and can transport 40 tons and travel 3,500 kilometers per tankage. Ellen Jones, the Head of ESG at Formula 1, commends DHL for a great effort toward the creation of a more environmentally friendly sport.

Other measures towards sustainability that DHL has also been implementing include experimenting with technologies enhanced routes through the use of GPS and also incorporating more efficient aircraft as it reemphasizes its commitment to rendering logistics solutions that are both effective and eco-friendly.
