About Egyptair Cargo:

Egyptair is the country’s state-owned airline. It regularly flies to 81 places in Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas, carrying both people and goods. The ship is part of the Star Alliance and is worth more than $3.8 billion. With a fleet of brand-new Embraer E-170 jets, the airline started a regional branch in 2006 called Egyptair Express. It flew between Cairo and Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, Luxor, Aswan, Marsa Alam, Abu Simbel, and Alexandria (Egypt).

Egyptair’s fiscal year runs from July to June. For the fiscal year ending July 31, 2007, the company made a record $1.143 billion. Along with the Egyptian Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Egyptian Holding Company for Airports & Air Navigation, the airline formed Smart Aviation Company. This new business airline will be based at Cairo Airport.

The new Terminal 3 opened in 2009 and is more than twice the airport’s capacity. This meant that Egyptair had to change how it ran at its Cairo International Airport hub. All-Star Alliance airlines that serve Cairo have moved to Terminal 3 as part of the “Move Under One Roof” plan at Cairo Airport. The airline will change how it works at its base in Alexandria in 2010 by moving operations from the older buildings at Alexandria International Airport to the new airport in Borg El Arab Airport.

The airline revealed a new partnership at the Paris Airshow in 2009–2010 with US lessor Aviation Capital Group (ACG) and other private and public Egyptian shareholders. The goal was to create a leasing joint venture focused on the Middle East and Northern Africa. Civil Aviation Finance and Operating Leases (CIAF-Leasing), the name of the new joint company, will first focus on narrowbody aircraft.

EgyptAir lost a lot of money after the 2011 change. During the 2012–13 fiscal year, the company lost about 1.3 billion Egyptian pounds ($185 million). Because of safety worries, Russia stopped EgyptAir from flying to Russia in November 2015. Egyptair got a US$140,000 fine in January 2016 for renting planes to Sudan Airways from 2010 to 2011. This broke the economic sanctions put in place against Sudan in 1997.

Egyptair is one of the few companies that doesn’t serve alcohol on its flights. As part of a reorganization, Aviation Minister Air Marshall Younes Hamed said that Egyptair Express, Egyptair Cargo, and Egyptair Ground Services Company would join the leading airline.

The CEO Board of Star Alliance approved Egyptair as a potential member in October 2007. Egyptair became the 21st member in 2008. EgyptAir and the government of Ghana agreed in October 2020 to work together to build a national airline for Ghana with money from both countries.
