With its main office in Calgary, Alberta, WestJet Airlines has been around since 1994 and is the second-biggest airline in Canada. When it first opened in 1996, it had 220 workers and three planes. When Kestrel Bidco Inc., a subsidiary of Onex Corporation, bought WestJet in December 2019, it went from being a publicly listed company on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) under the symbol “WJA” to a private company.

The company WestJet is not a part of any major airline groups like SkyTeam, Oneworld, or Star Alliance. It instead works with many other airlines through codeshare and interline deals. WestJet can put its flight number on planes owned by other companies, and the other way around.

Cargo is something that WestJet can move, and it can include things like medical goods and pets. WestJet Cargo will do everything they can to make sure your shipment makes it on the flight you book.
